51黑料网 McNair Scholars present research at national conference
Six McNair Scholars from 51黑料网 recently presented their research at the annual McNair Conference at the University of Maryland.
The conference is the largest research conference for McNair programs in the United States, said Jarrod Bray, TRiO campus coordinator at Henderson.
The Ronald E. McNair Post Baccalaureate Achievement Program at Henderson assists low-income, first-generation college students and those from underrepresented groups in preparing for graduate school. It is a federally-funded TRiO program.
鈥淢ore than 100 graduate schools attended to recruit and highlight their university, giving the scholars an opportunity to network and make connections,鈥 Bray said. 鈥淥ur McNair Scholars are required to present their research at the conference to not only give them the experience to present, but also the opportunity to highlight their research to those graduate schools.鈥
- Rocky Hughes made a poster presentation entitled Exploring Equity: Challenges and Solutions in African American Healthcare.
- Katelyn Scott鈥檚 poster was entitled Parental Attachment and Romantic Relationships.
- D鈥橝ndriel Smith presented A Dead Romance: Has the Media鈥檚 Glamorization of Mental Illness Led to an Attention-Seeking Epidemic? with his poster.
- Sidney Hansberry gave an oral presentation on Call It How You See It: How Alzheimer鈥檚 is a Side Effect of Sleep Disorders.
- Michael Kempson鈥檚 oral presentation was entitled An Investigation of Railgun Technology and Limitations.
- Jamesia Sapp featured Cardiovascular Diseases in African Women for her oral presentation.
鈥淥ur scholars did an outstanding job in presenting their research,鈥 Bray said. 鈥淭hey represented 51黑料网 well.鈥
The students were accompanied by Bray, Dr. Eric Flowers and Dr. Don Kelly. After the conference, the group toured Washington, D.C.
